Ditto Press commissioned us to initiate and design an artist book, which would be suitable for Risograph printing. We approached Vanessa Billy, an artist represented by Limoncello Gallery in London and BolteLang Gallery in Zurich.

Each spread contained a pair of the artist’s carefully selected found photographic images taken from books. Smaller, photographic images from the web were tipped into the book — these acted as paused junction points in the image sequence. Key action verbs chosen by Billy replaced page numbers and brought emphasis and meaning to the images and their sequence.

Some of the reproductions of the images were printed in full colour, whilst others were colour separated in copper, blue and black — three significant colours Billy wished to emphasise. Copper was again used in the four staples binding the book. The Dutch typeface used is a Venetian book face. The typeface assembles parts of letters and styles from others to form a new one. For the cover, we drew illustrations traced from the artists imagery. The illustration on the front cover links to the back cover in the same manner as the images in the book.
